How our house has transformed (for the better!) during the pandemic

We have taken the time to really reflect on our home recently, and while traveling isn’t in the cards for the near future, making our home our little sanctuary is. So our online space here is making a real transition from being ALL about the travels to being ALL about home. And frankly, we’re in a season of life when we’re okay with that!

How we used Havenly to decorate our Great Room (an honest review)

When we first moved into our new home, I was a bit overwhelmed with decorating. I was especially overwhelmed by our Great Room. This room is the first thing people see when they enter the front door, and is half dining room, half living room, so I wanted it to be well done. Of course, I had my fair share of Pinterest boards brimming with inspiration, but I simply didn’t know where to start. To say I felt overwhelmed was an understatement. Enter Havenly.

How we're welcoming a new direction in 2020

Happy 2020! Wow, a LOT has happened in the past year. Most monumental of all? Moving from Washington, DC to our new home in South Burlington, Vermont.💚🏡💚To kick off the new year, we went on a hike in the woods behind our house today. Between the fresh powder and the chill in the air, it made for a refreshing, reflective, start to the new decade! Happy New Year!

Off the beaten path of Rome: seeing the Appian Way & Aqueducts by bike!

Off the beaten path of Rome: seeing the Appian Way & Aqueducts by bike!

There is so much of Rome to see. But if you’re like us, sometimes you need a break from the fast-paced city.

Enter a bike tour to the Appian Way. We can’t imagine any other way to see it!

We met at 10:30 in the morning for a lengthy day of biking. Once we got outfitted with our bikes, helmets, and rain ponchos (which were thankfully never needed!), we were off to see the catacombs, Appian Way, and aqueducts!

The best sandwich in all of Florence — so good, it’s illegal!?

The best sandwich in all of Florence — so good, it’s illegal!?

Word about the best sandwich in all of Florence is out.

I’m writing this while drooling in line with about 518,491,153 of my closest friends (give or take a few million…)

It’s been about 20 minutes. Am I any closer to the door? Questionable. Is it ridiculous that I’m waiting this long for a sandwich at 8pm on a Saturday? Probably.

Is it worth it? Why yes, yes it is.

Wine Touring in Tuscany

Wine Touring in Tuscany

We set off from our downtown Florence apartment around 9:15 am for a day of wine touring. We crossed the Orno River, got a snap or two of the Ponte Vecchio, and in no time arrived at the Grape Tours storefront. We checked in, grabbed some coffee, and soon met our tour guide, Katherine.

We got in our big white van and headed South, into Tuscany! Our first stop was Corzano e Paterno, a fully-operational farm, that is a 40 minute drive from Florence. They make their own wine, olive oil, and sheep cheese, all of which are exquisite! The farm's name comes from the two surrounding hills — Corzano, where the grapes are grown, and Paterno, where the sheep graze.

Vermont has always been a destination we sneak away to any chance we can. From our home in DC, it is a drive that can take around nine hours, so it takes some planning to make the trip! But, oh my, is it ever worth it! We seem to eat and drink REALLY well every single time we visit. If it’s not ridiculously delicious home cooked meals with family, then it’s heading into Woodstock for some tasty bites. Here’s a list of some of our favorite spots to eat while visiting family in Woodstock, Vermont
