Eating in NYC: Mexicue

Eating in NYC Mexicue

While in New York, we wanted to have some tasty food that would be a bit off the beaten track -- stuff we don't eat every day, and stuff that our significant others may not always enjoy.

For dinner our first night, Mom and I ate at Mexicue, a cute Mexican place just a few blocks from our hotel near Times Square (I told you, it was freezing the weekend we were there, so close spots were key!)

THE ATMOSPHERE

I loved the atmosphere here -- trendy, buzzy, and we could still hear each other over the music and din of the restaurant. We got there on the early side of a Friday night, and saw the crowd come and go. I heard the place is a spin-off from a popular food truck, and has a few locations scattered across the city. It didn't feel like a chain though, which was great.

THE FOOD

We started the night with charred jalapeno guacamole. It was divine. To be honest, we should have just called that dinner! But afterwards, we each ordered a taco, which really filled us up. The tacos were good, but I would come back more for the guacamole.

THE DRINKS

We started as all mother-daughter weekends should...with a margarita...(or two...)! While they had some interesting sounding flavored margs, Mom and I are purists when it comes to margaritas! The drinks were good, could have been a little stronger, but hey, still a great way to kick our weekend.

OVERALL RATING

I would come back here, if only for the guac, and a marg. Maybe I'd even shoot for a flavored margarita next time around! This was a fun place! 4 out of 5.
