Hotels we Love...Locanda Il Maestrale, Monterosso

Tucked along the Amalfi coast, Monterosso ended up being one of our favorite little Italian towns. And the place that we called home during our stay in this gem of a place was Locanda Il Maestrale.

The location was great, nestled into the old town area, with access to hiking in one direction, and the sea in the other. We felt we really got a good lay of the land in our few days there thanks to our central location.

Our room was unlike anything we had seen before. The door opened to an expansive living area with a tall armoire to the left, and the bathroom to the right. Suspended above was the loft-style bedroom with a queen bed, and above that, a huge fresco-painted ceiling, which was charming to look at while drifting off to sleep.

The breakfast in the morning was good; amazingly fresh yogurt and granola, slices of focaccia, made-to-order soft-boiled eggs, and on demand cappuccino got our days off to a great start.

A nice patio with lemon trees offered comfy lounge chairs in which we could kick back, relax, and read. There was also a little place where you could make your own fresh squeezed orange and lemon juice at any time of the day. If the weather were a little warmer, we certainly would have made more use of this space, perhaps even for breakfast.

The stay was great, we certainly have nothing to complain about. Could the bed have been a bit more comfortable? Probably. Could the AC have been a little easier to manage? Yes. Did we occasionally feel like teenagers sneaking out at night because our room opened right onto the front desk? Yeah. But all in all, they took good care of us. We might be up for trying out a different place next time around, but don't have a bad thing to say about this lovely Locanda.
